Vampire Weekend

Our former life intersected a bit with our present life this last Friday when Vampire Weekend came to town. Neither Samantha and I are diehard Vampire Weekend fans, but with the concert landscape pretty bleak on the Bangkok horizon, we jumped at the chance. Some other work folk did the same and so a group of 9 of us headed out to the Thunder Dome (Mad Max-ish only in name) for the show.

It was located a little bit outside of town and this being a holiday weekend, that meant a good bit of the traffic Bangkok is famous for. Luckily, my co-workers are good planners, so we got a big van and brought along a cooler of beer, so the almost-2-hour trip was spent in good spirits. The show itself was better than I had expected (lower expectations are always useful), so we enjoyed our night out quite a bit. At some moments, I had to remind myself that we were in Thailand, but at other times, it was pretty cool to think that we were having this somewhat transplanted experience in Thailand.

We went for a nightcap after at a relatively seedy bat with a all-lady cover band, whose rough performance made us appreciate the show we had seen prior all the more.
