Birds & Bees Resort, Jomtien Beach (Pattaya)

We received a surprise 4-day weekend last weekend, so we went down with another family to Birds & Bees Resort in Jomtien Beach, outside of Pattaya. An easy 2-hour drive, it's owned by the same folks who own the Cabbages & Condoms restaurant in Bangkok, famous for using its proceeds to teach sex education and do other good works such as build schools in Buriram Province. It's run by a former senator who has also won a prestigious $1 million grant from The Gates Foundation. The resort also staffs only workers from Buriram Province as well. It was an absolutely beautiful place, right on a private beach, with its own Cabbages & Condoms restaurant, its own farm and two great swimming pools.

The beach wasn't nearly as spectacular and clear as some of Thailand's beaches, but we had the run of the place.

When not at the beach, we were beating the heat in the pool.

Or checking out the grounds.

The family wore bathrobes together.

Shane was eager to get at the fun, so that meant he wasn't about to let Eliana sleep in...
